Event Description

Greetings, friends,

Once again the chill of winter has settled over our lands, a welcome reminder that the Feast of the Leviathan fast approaches. Having hosted a score of this yearly gathering, there is much about this time of year that is familiar and routine. Yet as our kitchens spring to life and our countrymen convene to begin preparations, it has become clear to us that embracing the familiar cannot be our only goal as we begin the Feast of the Leviathan's third decade. This year, instead, our aim is to embrace bold new ideas while still doing honor to our old tried and true traditions.

In reflection, our lives are defined by the confluence of the old and the new. We remember our past glories while still seeking new adventure. We rely on previous experiences to teach us lessons that define our ensuing actions. Our communities and families grow and change as old friends go their separate ways and we bring new compatriots into the fold. While it can be comforting to look behind us, embraced by our past, we are called upon to always walk forward building the best future we can.

To build that future for the Feast of the Leviathan we are attempting a wide array of new things this year. The entire format of the day will be different and inventive while still keeping the soul of our traditions intact. We've changed the layout of the hall, added new and exciting entertainment and innovated the way that we serve food, all with the aim of allowing our guests to have the space and time to fully enjoy the company of friends both old and new.

And speaking of new friends, of chief importance to this year's gathering is to officially present to the Realms our daughter, born this past summer and now having reached the age that her name can be bestowed upon her. We ask that all of our family and allies be present for the auspicious event.

So once more we welcome you to Rhiassa to partake in our hospitality and join one another in celebration and in camaraderie. We invite you to experience our new innovations while still enjoying the old familiar aspects of the day that you've come to cherish. Please make your way to our hall to celebrate the beginning of a new year together, honoring our past and looking forward to a bright future.

Leviathan with you,

Lord Sir Aeston, Lady Dame Areni, and Lord Sir Gwen Stromgate

Rules Changes and Notes

The format of the feast this year will be very different from in years past. Please read through so you can have a clear idea of the layout of the day so there are no unwelcome surprises.

  1. The bulk of the day will not feature traditional plated service to seated patrons. Instead, the hall will be set up with fewer tables, more widely spaced out, and with no permanent seating arrangements during this earlier section of the event. This will allow our guests to move around, sit together when desired or convenient, but be able to flexibly socialize with different groups throughout the day.

  2. During this open hall portion of the day, food will plentiful and varied. The kitchen will continuously be producing a wide array of small bites and amuse-bouche, brought out by servants on platters and circulated around the hall. Beyond that, there will also be a revolving station with more hearty offerings available throughout the day. We cannot stress enough that there is no way you will be able to spend the day hungry with the volume and variety of food that will be pouring out of the kitchen.

  3. We will have a bar set up this year for drink service. The hall is dry, but we will have a welcome variety of both hot and cold drinks with some specialty items as well.

  4. During this open hall portion of the day, entertainment and non-combat tournaments will be dispersed around both the large and small sections of the hall. Games and challenges, both old and new, will be available with some more grandiose games, such as the new and improved Merchant Barons, announced periodically.

  5. The Gilded Lion Carnival will return with opportunities to win gold and prizes through games of chance and skill!

  6. The Chimeron Casino Royale will return with more tables than ever. To encourage participation especially by those who are new to playing at a casino, vouchers for some free chips will be available as you arrive at the door.

  7. Questing opportunities will be present throughout the day from the Adventurer's Guild. To avoid spoilers, we'll leave it at that.

  8. Kids entertainment is an important focus for us this year; with families growing and our community blessed with so many children we want to make it easy and enjoyable for you to bring your whole families along. We will be having organized activities, every hour on the hour during the early day, for kids to engage in. If your child is very young your participation along with them is requested.

  9. Brother Pryor, a chronicler of Realms heroes, will be present throughout the day to capture their exploits and likenesses (Matt Norris' photography studio). He will be conducting his image capturing in a brand new and interesting format that your entire group will find fun to participate in.

  10. The smaller side of the hall will be set up with a stage and bench seating. Announcements such as auction results, and entertainment such as bardics will take place on this stage with interested parties able to gather close by.

  11. As always, there is plenty of space for merchants of all varieties to set up their wares. Contact Aeston if you desire to do so.

  12. During the early evening, the hall will transition to a more traditional format. We will ask all of our guests to all gather on the small side of the hall and sit around the stage as we offer some unique and interactive entertainment with the opportunity for our patrons to have fun and win some valuable prizes! While this entertainment is going on, the large side of the hall will be transformed.

  13. For this latter section of the event, more traditional seating will be set up. We will have the usual reserved seating for nations available at ten people per table. Tables will be arranged with place settings and dinnerware.

  14. Per our normal procedures, you can reserve table for your group with pre-regges. Three pre-regges from the same nation will allow you to reserve a table. Again, this year tables will seat ten instead of past years where they seated six.

  15. As our guests rejoin the larger part of the hall and take their seats, a hearty plated dinner course will be served immediately followed by dessert.

  16. During dinner Rhiassa will host open court, followed by the event awards and the View from Valehaven awards ceremony.
