Event Description

Maybe you've heard some rumors, maybe you're just curious...either way, you wound up in Teng Hua, might as well do some exploring and get to know the place. What's the worst that could happen?

Rules Changes and Notes

Note: Yellow Arm Band - If you need to be a non-combatant (ie it isn't safe for you to be hit) you should plan on bring a pair of yellow armbands to wear as an identifier. With yellow armbands your character CAN still be killed. All someone has to do is get within reasonable melee range, point there weapon at you, and state "I kill you". Yellow Arm banded People, please do your best to not put yourself in a situation where you might get accidentally hit. In case it was a question, Yellow Arm Banded participants can not attack with weapons or spells.

Other Notes

Our staff has been working hard this year to bring something unique to the Realms with our event series, Tales of Teng Hua. We tried to expand your taste buds with Feast of Teng Hua, we tried something never before attempted with A Rafting We Will Go, and now, we would like to take this opportunity to share with you some things you can expect from our more traditional style events.

One of our main goals this year is to create a well rounded and intimate experience for all of our players at Folkestone Questing: Tales of Teng Hua. We will have a combination of small group modules that you will get to go on with your friends, soft open world encounters, and opportunities to explore some of the culture and day to day life of Teng Hua.

Another important goal for us is to make who your characters are and how you roleplay them to be more important than your character class (fighter/caster/restriction). That isn’t to say there won’t be times where certain classes may have advantages, just that there should generally be something fun you can be participating in regardless of your class.

We hope that you will join us for the full weekend, and to further that goal, we will be ending the event between 1-2pm on Sunday so that no one has to stay too late. To further that, we will be starting content by 10 am on Sunday and providing a breakfast option that morning which you can buy with OOC cash so there is no need to leave site. No matter how long you are able to stay, you can expect a good range of combat, puzzles, games, rituals, and roleplaying.

Now, onto some of the mechanical specifics.

A good portion of the event will be module based, and there will be a list of locations at the event where you must not go without a plot hook. There will also be a clearly specified area where the open world content will take place, and where players will be able to wander at their leisure.

Regionals at this event series will be zero cost buydown, but for players who enjoy learning magics of the land there will be opportunities for everyone to do so if they wish. Learning such magics may come with a cost, but will NOT be limited to players based on their characters existing class.

There will be no automatic spell reset between Saturday and Sunday. There may be ways to get one, but you will have to find out in game. In general, an Intervention will not grant a spell reset for this event series.

Spells that gain you knowledge (the former Seer path spells, Commune with Spirit, and Interventions for information for example) will function slightly differently at times. People with these spells should come prepared with writing implements and paper. You will find out more information in game.

Dinner break on Saturday will be a very soft stop. Players may stay in character if they wish and explore the open world area, as well as perform in character actions. We will not be providing important content during this time.

We plan to use as much of the event site as we are able, and to make it feel as in character as we can. To further that, there is absolutely no parking in the lot near the Scouter Lodge. There will be a couple staff vehicles parked behind the Scouter Lodge, if you require a special allowance, please reach out to Jason.

Some modules over the course of this event series will be labeled as HIGH RISK. Modules of this nature will be clearly marked. By going on these modules, you are acknowledging and accepting that your character might receive up to 3 Ticks and will be permanently destroyed. There will always be a senior staff member running these mods. We will never be out to get anyone, but your character is doing something very dangerous and could meet their ultimate demise.

Bear with me, just a few more things :)

We will be running a fully in character tavern again. As such, no player gear may be stored in there. That being said, we will be sectioning off the tavern and will make the smaller back portion (far side from the kitchen) available for players to store things. Some of you may colloquially know this area as Rubis Proper.

There may be times where there are no modules running or available. It is our hope that we have given you enough things to work on and talk about that you might not even notice. We will do our best to keep things going and minimize these times, but please bear with us as we are attempting some new things and snafus may happen.

There will be times when you are asked to marshall yourselves. We are firm believers in “This is a game of honor, act accordingly”. If you have questions about something it is always OK to ask. There will always be someone at the Scouter Lodge (NPC area) that can help you.

There may be times where you are fighting in a constrained area. It is NEVER acceptable to push through a line of “dead” bodies. You will need to slowly make your way through or remove the bodies by dragging them. We won’t do it to you. Show the same courtesy. We are doing this to have fun and that level of competition is not acceptable.

We will have specific mechanics posted at the event for the various things I have mentioned. Please come into the event with an open mind and the willingness to challenge yourself to stay as in character as possible, and to try new things as they come up. We look forward to seeing you all and joining together to tell this collaborative story.
