January 14, 2023
Site was JN Webster Boy Scout Camp - Ashford, CT.
Event Holder was Jason T Rosa.
Feastocrat was Lani Jones.
Greetings my friends, The days grow both shorter and more frigid and it is as sure a sign as anything that the Feast of the Leviathan will soon be upon us. Here in Rhiassa this is both our busiest and happiest season; nothing pleases us more than the privilege of welcoming all of the heroes of the Realms to our hearth and showing them all of the hospitality we can muster. Soon recipe books will be flipped open, ingredients will be gathered from across the land, and all of the delectable scents of the kitchen will pervade Southland as our preparations come to fruition. The past year was a gratifying one to behold. As the Realms shrugged off a long dormancy, we all witnessed how the individual and group efforts across the community were vital in returning us to our full strength. This was not by any means a forgone conclusion. I think all too easily we could have given way to darkness and silence had these heroic inclinations not prevailed. But that reality never came to pass. Instead, we leaned on one another, drew inspiration from one another, and worked our hardest to make sure everyone had a place to return to when they were ready to rejoin our ranks. If the Feast of the Leviathan is about celebrating one another then I can think of no aspect of our past year that is more admirable or more deserving of praise. And what is more, it is our esteemed pleasure this year to be able to devote the entirety of the day’s festivities to our dear friends in the nation of Ashenmark. The hall will be festooned in the black and gold in deference to the tremendous amount of passion and effort that they have devoted towards this community and we would ask the entirety of the Realms to join us in celebrating them. As always, we promise you a worthy place to partake in that celebration. The food will be plentiful and made with love. The entertainment will be captivating and diverse. And we’ll have some surprises in store this year that are sure to leave a lasting impression on all of our patrons. So please make your way to Rhiassa as the moon reaches its earliest third quarter of the year. Come to celebrate our achievements and to reunite in kinship as we always do in January. We look forward to your company and the opportunity to fill your day with the warmth of food and the warmth of community. Leviathan with you, Lord Sir Aeston, Lady Dame Areni, and Lord Sir Gwen Stromgate
Hello everyone, In the wake of Feast of the Leviathan XXIV I would like to express some sentiments and thank the many people who worked to make the event successful. First of all, I want to address the hidden theme of the year that was revealed as people showed up on site. The advertised subtitle of the event this year was “Here’s To You” and was meant to be a celebration of what all of us have done over the past many months to make sure that the Realms endured and that the community stayed together through the challenges the world has faced. And while that position absolutely remains true we also decided, quite secretly, to dedicate the theme of the year to the people of Ashenmark. We wanted to bring Ashenmark to the fore because as a group they are far too humble to ever step forward and delineate their accomplishments. But the truth of the matter is that the events that they hold make up a vital part of the fabric of our game and that the contributions that they make to other groups’ events are indispensable as well. All of us have greatly benefited from the work that they do. So thank you to everyone for helping us honor them by joining in thanking them, through sculpting statues dedicated to them, and in signing the banner at the high table. I’m certain they all feel the love that was directed their way. And speaking more of the theme of the day, I truly believe that Feast of the Leviathan this year captured the energy that we were hoping for. I’m very certain that this was the largest event on record since the pandemic, with over 160 registered players, not counting staff, and it felt entirely like the Realms was back and that we were all there to celebrate it. All around me I saw people engaged in their individual or group pursuits, taking part in the entertainment of the day, or making plans for the coming year. Throughout the hall I saw people welcoming one another, spending time with one another, and appreciating one another - the most vital pursuits that The Feast of the Leviathan was always meant to inspire. I hope you all felt it too -- that it was a special day. Of course an event as large and as intricate as Feast of the Leviathan can only happen because of the hard work of many people. I’d like to join with my fellow lords, Jen and Lani, in saying thank you to those individuals now. First, for their efforts in cooking in the days leading up to the event, thank you to Xandri C, Katie C, Ben H, Katie S, Siona G, Laura B, and Alyssa L. For their work in the kitchen on the day of the event, Xandri C, Katie C, Katie S, Siona G, Laura B, Mel F, Jerry P, Christina H, Kielle H, Greg F, Nataliya K, Peter H, Jen G, Jacob K, and Jason G. For expertly staffing our soft drink bar, Stephanie K and Jacob K. For helping to run the entertainment and activities throughout the feast hall, Ben H, Cory R, Crystal W, Jen G, Sabrina W, Sean V, David R, Zack K, Nick Q, Ed D, , Pat B, and Zach S. Thank you to everyone who joined with Rhiassa in helping to clean up the site, but especially to those who stayed until the very end, Kevin W, Ryan W, Pat B, Justin T, and Jerry P. And finally, as I always do, I want to say thank you to all of our patrons. Truly, throwing the Feast of the Leviathan is one of our favorite things to do. It is hard work, as any event-holding is, but the joy we behold and the thanks we receive from all of you makes it worth it every time. This was the 24th year and sometimes I have to take pause to consider the many steps and evolutions that had to occur from it to grow from a humble 30-person central MA event to a true bookmark of the community's year with guests from across the Realms. But chief amongst the reasons it has is the trust that you have placed in us to host all of you each year. It is not a privilege that we take lightly. We’re looking forward to seeing you all again, and the surprises that we have in store, at The Feast of the Leviathan XXV. In service, Jason Rosa
