Event Description

Adventurers of the Realms,

It has been more than four seasons now since you struck down the Fallen King and freed Gi from the oppression of the Risen Kingdom. The Gidan Resistance has appreciated that you’ve allowed them to rebuild their world on their own terms, but it has become increasingly obvious to the organization’s leadership that they lack the means to do all of this entirely on their own.

It has been requested that small parties of adventurers from the Realms return to Gi to explore the current state of things and to provide assistance where possible. Things are dire here—the Total Void Cascade disrupted all of the Void-powered infrastructure in Gi. Perhaps the most noteworthy result of this is the loss of the river filtering system. Unprocessed sludge has flooded most of central Gi and the farming settlements in the northwest which relied on the fresh water from the filtered river are now burdened with extreme drought. Whatever magic the Risen Kingdom used to create such a volume of water will need to be replaced, but that will take quite a lot of work and there are more pressing problems right now: the food stores here were enough to last the previous cold season, but this recent planting season and tending season have produced slim yields. Gidans everywhere are at risk of starvation in the next cold season.

The portal in Praespero has been stabilized and you should find it more suitable for transit between worlds. When you arrive, report to Resistance Headquarters for your assignments.

Respectfully,
Major Olive Pansench
Gidan Resistance Liaison

About the Event

The Price of Gi-dom is a story-focused roleplaying event. Players will organize themselves into three groups (Party Alfa, Party Beta, Party Gemma)—please indicate which party you’re joining by adding a note to your registration information or contacting the EH directly. It would be best if each group contained eight to ten people.

This event is a composition of multiple scenes which each tell a story from a different part of Gi. In each scene, one party will be playing their PCs and the other parties will be playing Gidan characters. But this isn’t typical NPCing. You will get a briefing before the scene which gives background perspectives and motivations for one of several archetypes, and it will be up to you to establish a living and nuanced Gidan based on that framework. No scene has a scripted or “correct” conclusion—the PCs and Gidan characters will play out each story with organic and improvised roleplaying.

It is the EH’s intention that each party will play their own PCs in an equal number of scenes. However, please understand that due to timing or other constraints, a party may end up with one more or one less opportunity.

Costuming

Event attendees are strongly encouraged to bring extra generic garb to outfit their Gidan characters. Some garb will be provided by the EH. Players do not need to wear typical “NPC blacks” while playing Gidans but should take care to differentiate their Gidan characters from their PCs.

Gaining IC Information

After the event, you may choose to have your PC dream (or have a vision, or some other fitting excuse) about what your Gidan characters did. Your PC does not need to be a spellcaster to benefit from this effect.

Rules Changes and Notes

The Code of Conduct+ will be enforced at this event.

Story Shards will not be resolved at this event, though it is the EH’s intention to use this legacy mechanic again at follow-on events.

Spell Credit: Any player who participates in at least one scene as a Gidan character may, at the end of the event, learn one spell for their PC directly from the EH regardless of how many other spells that PC has learned during the event.

Bowing Out: A player may “bow out” of any IC situation at any time for any reason by ducking their head and shading their eyes with one or both hands. If a player “bows out", other players should continue as if that player’s character has left the scene for normal and unremarkable reasons. Players may return to play at any time after bowing out and should seek assistance from the event staff if there is not a clear way to re-enter. This “bow out” mechanic is intended to help players excuse themselves from IC situations which cause them OOC discomfort. It should never be used to gain an in-game advantage.

Special Calls and Terrain Mechanics can be found on this page: https://realms.link/gi/calls_and_terrain

Other Notes

Food will not be provided by the event staff (after all, the Gidans can barely feed themselves). Potable tap water will be available in the Common House and by the barn; players may access either of those buildings at any time, but keep in mind that many parts of the event will not take place in the immediate vicinity thereof.

This site is part of a neighborhood. Please be respectful of the people who live here.

Parking

For fight practices: attendees may park next to the barn.

For events: attendees must park in a visitor spot or along the side of Village Court/Lane. Parking next to the barn or on the dirt road that leads to it requires explicit permission from the EH.

Directions
Camelot Cohousing Barn and Field
69 Village Court
Berlin, MA 01503

Your GPS wil be able to take you most of the way.

Once you have turned into the neighborhood (Village Lane/Village Court), continue down the main road until you reach the dumpsters. Marked vistor parking is the spots just past the dumpsters. If all of those spots are occupied, you can also park on the side of Village Ct along the trees. Please do not park in any other spot on site, as they all belong to residents.

From visitor parking, walk towards the common house (69 Village Court). It is the large building with a paved patio and grass circle in front of it. The stairs to the left of the common house lead down to the field and barn. You may have to walk into the field a few feet to spot the barn; it will be on your left.
