Tournaments-Of-Respect Three-Man (person)Team Tournament

April 13, 2003

Site was Camp Carpenter - Manchester, NH.

Event Holder was James Murphy.

Event Description
BECAUSE OF THE WEATHER THE ATHLETINC FIELD WILL NOT BE AVAILABLE I AM
MOVING THE EVENT 1/10 OF A MILE DOWN THE ROAD TO THE NEXT RIGHT AT
THE STORE. THERE WILL BE A TOURCH OUT AT THE ROAD. BECAUSE OF THE
CHANGE I AM LOWERING THE COST OF THE EVENT AS IF YOU ALL PRE-REGED ---
$5---
I HOPE TO SEE YOU THERE
Please come to the first three-man team tournament. There is respect
to be earned fights to fight and puzzles to figure out (and maybe a
prize or 9).
This tournament is sponsored by “The Ugly Foamsmith” when you see an
ugly weapon they probably made it. THE UGLY FOAMSMITH WILL BE RENTING
WEAPONS AND A SMALL AMOUNT OF ARMOR. RENTALS WILL GO TO THE FIRST
PERSON TO PUT GOLD ON THE TABLE.

This tournament will have teams of three people. They will compete in
several combat and a few non-combat or low combat tournaments. (All
listed below) one of the big differences in this tournament is that
spell casters are allowed to use most or all of their spells in each
fight. During most tournaments, spells and armor will “reset” between
bouts. There are regional spells for each and every circle, each and
every path. Most to all are combat oriented. Several of them take odd
or different props. YOU MUST PRE-REGESTER YOUR REGIONALS TO GET THEM!
this way you know what odd or different props to bring. You can
pre-register by e-mail, snail-mail or if you happen to see me in
person. Magic pre-reg’s do not have to be paid to count. (But any
paid pre-reg's would be appreciated)

Players not on a formed team will be thrown together by chance or
design. [I have had several questions about singles, if you are not
on a formed team then I will try to get you on one. If I end up with
one or two extra people I have things for them to do as well]

The tournaments are;
Trivia, puzzles, and general realms knowledge
Three man duel
Circle of death
Tank war
The Race
Small, Medium, and Large (run at or about the same time)
Swarm
Last man standing
AND ANYTHING ELSE I CAN THINK OF TO THROW AT YOU (can you hula?)

Trivia/puzzles - These will be handed out at the beginning of the
event and turned in a little before the end. Some of the questions
will be OOC and some will be IC.

Three-man duel - Teams duel each other. Most spells and armor “reset”
between fights. Each team is allowed 15’ of weapons. Arrows and
javelins are counted as one foot per missile. Shields are free but
you can’t bring a shield into combat if you do not intend to use it
normally. [I.E. you can’t lean it up in front of you]

Circle of death (needs a new name, I will give an almost useless
prize to the person who can give it a better name) – teams fight to
be the first to get a hula-hoop from the middle of the field and put
it over a wooden post. To compete in this event at least one member
of the team must be a spell caster. Teams must still follow the 15’
of weapons rule

Tank war – two people, one “tank” one “gun”. Full armor, no spells.
The “guns” can not be hurt. The Bowmen start with 6 arrows a little
bit away from the tanks. [The ugly Foamsmith will rent bows and
arrows] the tanks will be allowed any melee weapons, but they are
still subject to their own spell restrictions.

The race – one runner from each team runs a race with full weapons,
spells and armor allowed but not required. While their teammates try
to stop all the other runners from out side the race area. All
runners will be given the ability to regen. Teams must still follow
the 15’ of weapons rule. I may run this a couple of times and average
out the results.

The small - One 18” or less weapon, armor/spells allowed but
weapon/armor restrictions still exist.
The medium – Flouretene, sword and board, and single weapons up to
5’.Full armor and all missile weapons are allowed. Spells and armor
will reset between fights.
The large - weapons greater then 5’ No spells (duh) Full armor. No
shields. Armor will reset between fights.

Swarm – each team will fight a kobold swarm. Maybe other monster
swarms as well. Teams must still follow the 15’ of weapons rule.
Other teams will be recruited to play the swarm.

Last man standing - This is a grand melee with all teams competing at
once. This event may be rerun several times depending on time
available. The last team standing gets there highest score from the
other tournaments eliminated. If we get to do it again the first
winner steps out. And the next team to win gets their second highest
score eliminated. etc… If any team does not make a real attack
within a 5 minutes, then they will be disqualified and they are out
for good. Teams must still follow the 15’ of weapons rule.

Teams may at their option put one gold piece in the gold pool. The
team that does the best will get the purse. It is up to the
individual teams to decide to enter or not. BUT THE SPONSER WILL BE
PUTTING UP SOME PRIZE MONEY AS WELL.

Most tournaments will randomly break the teams into smaller groups.
With the winners going on to a winners heat, the middles going to a
middles heat, and the not so good going to the low end of the pool.
How big the groups are, and how they will be divided up will depend
on the number of teams that enter. Your odds of winning depend on the
number of entries, void where prohibited, your mileage may very.
Event Wrap-up
I would like to apologize to any one that did not have a good time. I
am sorry for ruining anyone’s fun.
I would however like to address some issues that are in the reviews;
If you asked for a quest for your spell instead of learning it from
someone else you had to Finnish well in a tournament. The formula is
correct 8-circle you wanted to learn. For example if you wanted to
learn a 5th circle spell you needed to come in 3rd in any one
tournament. This was a tournament event I thought that the quests for
spells should be linked to them.
Potions could not be transferred except inside a team because spell
effects on people and spells reset once a tournament started. For
instance if you wanted to cast purity, you had to recast it in each
and every tournament. If the alchemist had transferred any potions to
anyone that was not on there team then they would have been reset at
the beginning of the next tournament. When the team that bought the
potions started there next tournament then the potions would have
gone poof and reset back to the caster. I thought it better to tell
the alchemist that they could not sell potion to other teams then
have the teams get really mad when the potions they bought did not
work.
When I ok’ed someone to run some crunches at the people who were not
on teams fighting for what ever reason, I was told by them that it
would not interfere with the running of my tournaments. (Which were
not happening often enough anyway). So when many PC’s responded to
the crunches, (which I would have done as well), it delayed the
running of a tournament. I then told them to stop it so I could try
to get some of the tournaments to happen.
As to the armor situation I realized I was wrong very quickly. I
apologized to Tom in person at the time of the incident. I will
continue to tell people I was wrong and made a bad call. I did not
immediately realize that there were two layers of leather. The
outside layer of was made from the thickest leather available which
added the second point to the armor.
In my closing remarks at the field, I said that I would never hold
another event like this one, either because I will never hold an
event again (I can here some of you cheering!), or because I have
learned something. Well, I have learned something… and time will tell
